2 words come to mind in your frightening and thoughtful post.
Collaborative and internecine.
The media and the politicians always like to use the word compromise. It’s a crap word. It means that nobody really guess what they want. Sure, we have differences that we can use as differences to collaborate on the things that matter most to everyone and get a win-win out of it. But we never hear the word collaboration used in the media. We hear other sea words like “competition.“ Our reality TV shows are filled with competition we’re almost everybody loses. And in the end, everybody does. And that’s for the other word internecine comes in.
I’ve been working on a song that we never ran on air America called “when there’s a mess, playing the messenger.“ The original version was about the lies that got us involved in the Iraq war. With just a little tweaking and rewriting the new version is about the lies that stem from the “stop the steal.“ The goddess to January 6.
It’s sad to me that I didn’t have to change too much.
Well, if there’s any hope in 22 maybe it comes from a friend who gave a wonderful Ted talk about curiosity. The two of you are to get to know one another. Smart people with great hearts. Check it out.
This year will be a critical one for these issues.
As thoughtful and frightening as a new year can be.

To echo Brad, a brilliant but sad epitaph for the U.S. we grew up in despite its flaws, now gravely metastasized.
Brilliant, poignant, and unfortunately spot on.
