Welcome to my Substack blog!
I had been writing the blog on Wordpress for a few years when in August of 2020 I was invited to become the second regular opinion writer in my local paper, The Coronado Eagle & Journal.
Coronado, California sits at the southwestern edge of the United States and as is apropos of the Birthplace of Naval Aviation, we have a Naval Air Station, the Navy’s Amphibious base, the Outlying Field, where the Navy trains helicopter pilots, and the new, billion dollar Navy Seal training facility. San Diego, our neighbor across the famous bridge, has even more Navy and Marine installations, including Camp Pendleton. In all, we have eight naval bases and two Marine installations, and a lot of Pacific Fleet management offices. It is undeniably a military town.
The Eagle & Journal has been published weekly since 1912, and until my tenure began, the commentary page never had a liberal voice. I guess the publisher realized that as the demographics of our country change, the paper needed to add a voice from the left. California may be a bastion of liberal thought, but San Diego, like its neighbor to the north, Orange County, has historically been very conservative.
I welcome you to what I hope you find to be a hassle-free platform, and look forward to your comments and insights.

I am familiar with your area, I was stationed at North island Naval Air Station for about a year and a half in the early 1970s. My roommates and I spent many after-duty hours on the beach between the southwest gate of the NAS and the Hotel del Coronado. and even were able to rent a house just a few blocks from the beach by pooling our BAQ and "comrats." I look forward to enjoying your blog.
Excellent stuff.
